GENERAL ELECTION INFO
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
You can vote if you
- Are a citizen of the United States
- Are at least 18 years old on the day of the election
- Are a resident of Harris County
- Are registered to vote
- Have not been declared mentally incompetent by a court
- Have not been convicted of a felony, or, if convicted, must have received a certificate of discharge or must have been pardoned
VOTER REGISTRATION
You must be registered 30 days prior to the election in which you want to vote. For more information on how to register, click on Registering to Vote.
EARLY VOTING
Harris County conducts early voting 14–17 days prior to Election Day. Early voting allows any registered voter to vote at any one of 30 designated Early Voting locations throughout Harris County. For more information on Early Voting, click on Cast Your Ballot.
ELECTION DAY VOTING
By law, most elections in Texas are held on one of the following dates:
The first Saturday in May
The first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
To vote on Election Day, you must vote at the polling location designated for your precinct of residence. For information on finding your precinct location and voting on Election Day, click on Cast Your Ballot.
ABSENTEE BALLOT
Voters who anticipate being out of town during the early voting period and on Election Day can request a ballot-by-mail. Early voting by-mail is also open to those individuals who are 65 years of age, those persons who possess a disability, and persons currently in a hospital or nursing facility.
